We at Crossroads Veterinary Centre are very proud to host Dog Blood donation days in conjunction
with the charity, Petblood Bank UK.
 |
You would need to be prepared to be here with your dog for approximately 40 minutes while checks and samples etc are taken.
Pet Blood Bank UK are a charity that collects and stores dog blood. This blood is then provided to vets all over the country to help very ill and injured dogs that need a blood transfusion, rather a lot like people.
We are looking for healthy happy dogs that dont mind coming to the vets. They must like people and be able to sit or lie still for about 10 minutes for the blood to be collected from their neck. |
To be able to donate your dog needs to be:
- Aged between 1 and 8 years old ( 2 - 7 years for giant breeds)
- Be over 25kgs
- fully vaccinated and healthy
- Not taking certain medications
- Have a good temperament and be able to sit or lie still for approximately 10 minutes
- Have never travelled abroad as part of the Pet Travel Scheme
- Have never had a blood transfusion
|
Your dog will recieve a free biochemistry and haematology blood test and be blood typed. These results will be given to you by Pet Blood Bank UK approximately 2 weeks after the donation day. A free goody bag, including treats, neck scarf and pet tag will also be provided on the day.
You will go away with the knowledge that your dogs blood could potentially have saved 4 other dogs lives.
If you think that your dog has what it takes to be a blood donor please phone 01494 459095 and give your details, we will then pass these onto Pet Blood Bank UK who will phone you to arrange an appointment time. |
